Apple’s “Time Flies” virtual event kicks off at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time today, and Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman is sharing some last-minute thoughts on what we might see during the event.
Gurman has previously said the events will likely focus on a new Apple Watch Series 6, as well as a new iPad Air, as Apple is widely expected to debut its new iPhone 12 lineup at an event to be staged in October.
Gurman says don’t expect a “ton new” features for the Apple Watch Series 6, besides a faster processor and blood oxygen monitoring. Some observers also anticipate better battery life and perhaps fast charging, thanks to the inclusion of sleep tracking in the watchOS 7 features list.
Gurman also believes a new lower-end Apple Watch, the “Apple Watch SE” will debut today, which will be available in the same 40mm and 44mm sizes, resembling the Series 5 model in both design and internal specifications.
As for the new iPad Air model., Gurman says it features an all-screen design similar to the iPad Pro, but will lack a ProMotion display and will not be powered by Apple’s latest A-series processor.
Gurman also says Apple One service bundles will be unveiled today, as well as a new Apple fitness service. A new Apple TV model will not be announced. Gurman failed to mention any expectations for an announcement about Apple’s much-rumored Tile-like “AirTags” accessory. Leaker Jon Prosser has said he believes an announcement is likely to be made today.
Apple’s media event will kick off at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time (1:00 p.m. Eastern Time) and is available for viewing on Apple’s event page, on the company’s YouTube channel, or via the TV app on Apple devices.
MacTrast will provide coverage of all announcements immediately following the event.
