Apple appears to be cutting back on supplies of its Apple Watch Series 5 wearables in its online store as an expected announcement of the upcoming Apple Watch Series 6 expected to be released this fall.
AppleInsider reports a large number of Apple Watch Series 5 configurations are currently listed as unavailable for delivery from Apple’s online retail store. This suggests Apple is clearing its virtual shelves in preparation for the unveiling of a new model in the coming days or weeks. Store pickup is also showing limited availability for many models.
Series 5 stock of various models is running low in the U.S. and major markets including China, Japan, and the UK. Many low- and mid-tier case and band combinations are listed as “currently unavailable” for shipping through Apple’s website. However, more expensive options are currently showing as available. Other versions are currently showing delivery dates for the end of September.
Leaker Jon Prosser first spotted the supply level change on Monday.
Leaker Jon Prosser has claimed Apple will announce the Apple Watch Series 6 via a press release during the week of Sept. 7. However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman on Sunday said he anticipates Apple to announce its annual iPhone event this week.
