iOS 14 Beta 6 Apple Maps Adds Native Ratings System and Photo Uploads for Places of Interest

iOS 14 beta 6, which was released on Tuesday, offers a new way for Apple Maps users to review places of interest and upload photos without the need for third-party integrations.

The new feature, which was first spotted by Twitter user BeauGiles and reported by 9to5Mac, offers a new user interface for places of interest in Maps, which no longer uses reviews and photos from sources like TripAdvisor, Yelp, and Foursquare. Apple is replacing those third-party sources with its own native rating system.

Users that tap a marker designating a place on the map that they have visited will be offered the chance to recommend the place using a thumbs up/thumbs down rating for categories such as quality of products and services in a shop, and more.

A new “Add Photos to Maps” feature in place cards also allows users to upload photos directly to Apple Maps servers. The option only appears for users older than 13 years of age. All photos are reviewed by humans before appearing in the app.

The feature is currently only available for some places of interest in the latest iOS 14 beta, as Apple is still in the process of rolling it out.
