Report: Apple to Debut New AirPods Pro in Second Half of 2021

Apple will debut its next-generation AirPods Pro in the second half of 2021, says a new report from DigiTimes.

According to the report’s sources, at least some of those next-gen AirPods Pro models will be assembled by Vietnamese firm Inventec Appliances. Current generation AirPods Pro manufacturers Luxshare and GoerTek will also perform a share of the accessories’ manufacture.

The report jibes with an earlier prediction by well-connected Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo which said second-generation AirPods Pro would go into mass production into the fourth quarter of 2021 to the first quarter of 2022.

AirPods at some time in the future could feature light sensors to be used for health monitoring features. The DigiTimes report suggests the new sensors could make an appearance in AirPods Pro in one to two years.

Apple is also said to be working on a third-generation of its standard AirPods. Kuo says Apple’s third-generation AirPods will adopt compact system-in-package (SiP) similar to the company’s AirPods Pro wireless earbuds.
