Ming-Chi Kuo: Largan to Begin Shipping ‘High-End’ Camera Lenses for ‘iPhone 12’ in Mid-July

Well-connected Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple’s upcoming “iPhone 12” will boast “high-end” lens arrays in the rear camera made by Taiwan-based lens company Largan. The new lenses will improve the device’s camera quality.

In a new research note (via MacRumors), Kup says Largan will begin supplying the premium camera lenses for the iPhones from mid-July.

Apple usually receives those components a bit earlier in the year. However, production has reportedly been delayed by four to six weeks in the second half of the year. This means we should see peak shipments between September and November, compared to August-October in the past.

Although Kuo doesn’t mention the reason for the delay, it is likely to be blamed on the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Apple is expected to launch its high-end 6.7 and 6.1-inch iPhones to feature triple-lens cameras, and its lower-end 5.4 and 6.1-inch iPhones will use dual-lens cameras. Kuo earlier said he expects the 6.1 and 5.4-inch iPhones to go into mass production in September, while the larger 6.7-inch ‌‌iPhone‌‌ will be delayed until October due to its more complicated design.
