Well-known leaker Jon Prosser has denied rumors that Apple could release a new iMac as soon as this week. Rumors about the impending launch of an Intel-based iMac with an unchanged design appeared over the weekend. However, the leak originated from Twitter accounts with no real track record for accurate leaks.
Prosser has tweeted in response to the rumors with a simple “Nope,” following up with:
If you want the new iMac, keep an eye out for August.
No redesign.
The rumors have been likely spurred by how shipping times for iMac models have been delayed for weeks, which is usually a decent indicator that new models are on the way.
Reliable leaker CoinX claimed in March that an iMac update was coming “soon,” but no further information has been shared since then.
Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in June that Apple would refresh its Intel-based iMac in the third quarter of 2020, then launch an Apple Silicon-based iMac later this year. Kup did not specify if the new Intel-based iMac would include a design refresh of if the redesign would wait until the Apple Silicon model’s debut.
An iMac redesign is said to include “iPad Pro design language” and thinner bezels, similar to that seen in Apple’s Pro Display XDR.
Prosser also responded to a question asking whether the new iMac would be powered by an Intel processor or by Apple Silicon, saying, “The first ARM Mac will likely be a 13.3″ MacBook Pro.”
