Display analyst Ross Young has repeated his statement that Apple’s upcoming “iPhone 12” handsets will not feature an upgraded 120Hz ProMotion display. Young previously said Apple would not offer ProMotion technology in its iPhone lineup until it adopted low-power LTPO display technology.
Young tweeted this morning that none of his contacts have been able to corroborate rumors that the iPhone 12 Pro models will feature 120Hz displays. He says his sources tell him 120Hz technology will make its first appearance in the 2021 iPhone lineup.
None of our contacts could corroborate iPhone 12 Pro models as 120Hz. They told us 2021. So, they are off our latest 120Hz list.. pic.twitter.com/uTQ7uinMUQ

Rumors have been all over the place when it comes to when we’ll see a ProMotion display on an iPhone. As recently as May an Apple publication claimed a 120Hz ProMotion display would be used for the “Pro” iPhone 12 models. Leakers Max Weinbach and Jon Prosser have made similar “leaks.”
Adding a ProMotion display to the iPhone without the low-power LTPO display technology could result in shorter battery drain, though it should be noted the iPad Pro offers ProMotion without LTPO.
As is usual for iPhone rumors, we won’t know whether the 2020 iPhone will offer ProMotion display technology until they’re unveiled this fall. So stay tuned.
