Apple Reclosing More U.S. Stores Including in Southern California, Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, and More

COVID-19 cases are once again on the rise in the United States, and Apple is closing more of its retails stores around the country. Apple is re-shuttering stores this week in California, Florida, Mississippi, Texas, Utah, Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, and Oklahoma. As of this week, 77 stores that had reopened have been closed once again.

In stores that are closing this week, Apple is allowing customers to pick up their repaired devices and existing orders through Friday, July 3. There is no word on when stores will reopen.

Apple tracks local health data in the states where it has stores located and uses it to identify areas where stores can be reopened or closed. Coronavirus cases are climbing in some areas of the United States, however, leading Apple to reclose stores in affected areas.

When Apple began reopening its stores, Apple’s retail chief Deirdre O’Brien warned that Apple would not hesitate to close stores again if coronavirus began rising.

“These are not decisions we rush into – and a store opening in no way means that we won’t take the preventative step of closing it again should local conditions warrant,” O’Brien said.

In a statement to CNBC Apple said that it is closing stores out of an abundance of caution.

Due to current COVID-19 conditions in some of the communities we serve, we are temporarily closing stores in these areas. We take this step with an abundance of caution as we closely monitor the situation and we look forward to having our teams and customers back as soon as possible.
