Leaker Prosser: ‘Apple Glass’ to Start at $499, Rely on Paired iPhone, Support Prescription Lenses, More

Leaker Jon Prosser today shared what he says are several details about Apple’s much-rumored augmented reality glasses. The “Apple Glass” eyewear is said to start at $499, will support prescription lenses, and much more.

Prosser says the marketing name for the AR eyewear will be “Apple Glass,” and will start at $499 and will offer prescription lenses for an extra charge. The glasses will rely on a paired iPhone, similar to how the original Apple Watch did. Displays in both lenses can be interacted with using gestures.

Prosser claims an early prototype of the glasses featured both LiDAR and wireless charging. He also says Apple had originally planned the unveiling of the Apple Glass as a surprise “One More Thing” debut at its fall iPhone event, but the announcement has likely been pushed back to a March 2021 event, due to the in-person gatherings due to the COVID-19 crisis. Apple is said to be targeting a later 2021 or early 2022 release.

The company is also said to be working on more traditional AR/VR headset much like Facebook’s Oculus Quest, previous reports have suggested the headset will debut before the glasses.

Prosser also added that this year’s iPhone unveiling event could take place in October, one month later than its traditional September timeframe, due to the current pandemic.
