Apple’s upcoming “iPhone 12 Pro” could include a 120Hz ProMotion display, an improved Face ID system, and an upgrade to the telephoto zoom on the back camera system.
EverythingApplePro claims Apple will use a ProMotion display on its Pro model releases for 2020, meaning the higher-specification 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch models will be able to switch between a 60Hz and 120Hz display mode similar to the iPad Pro’s version of the technology. The lower-priced “iPhone 12” would use a normal 60Hz display.
ProMotion offers advantages such as the smoother movement of items on-screen when using 120Hz, while switching to 60Hz will allow the iPhone to conserve power.
While the use of Promotion in 2020 iPhones has been previously rumored, this is the first rumor to suggest the technology will be limited to specific models.
Changes could also be on the way for Face ID, as EverythingApplePro claims Face ID will be able to work with a wider field of view, enabling users to be authenticated at more extreme angles than currently possible.
As for the rear-facing camera system, it will be enhanced by LiDAR, which could speed up autofocus while improving image stabilization, and improve Portrait Mode shots. Improved Smart HDR could also make low-light shots better.
The back shooter’s lenses could also see improvements, as the telephoto lens may get increased magnification, from 2x to 3x, providing an improved level of optical zoom before needing to use the Camera app’s digital zoom feature.
