Apple is now pushing the new 2D15 firmware to the second-generation AirPods, updating them from the previous 2A364 firmware. The update comes one week after Apple pushed the 2D15 firmware for the AirPods Pro.
So far it isn’t known what the new firmware fixes, or if it adds any new features. This software update could fix the bug that caused some customers who were sent a replacement AirPod with unreleased firmware to be unable to use them.
There isn’t any way to manually update the firmware of the earbuds, and the new software will be installed over-the-air while the AirPods are connected via Bluetooth to an iOS device.
If you place the AirPods in their case, connecting them to a power source, and then pairing them to an iPhone or iPad, they should update after a short period of time.
