Analyst Jeff Pu: 16-Inch MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and iMac Pro With Mini-LED Displays to Launch in 2021

Another computer industry analyst says Apple has plans to release several high-end devices with Mini-LED displays in 2021. Jeff Pu, an analyst at Chinese research firm GF Securities, says Apple will release a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro in the first quarter, a new 16-inch MacBook Pro in the second quarter, and a new 27-inch iMac in the second half of the year.

Pu’s prediction jibes with a recent one by industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said Apple suppliers will begin mass production of required components between the fourth quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021, which suggests the majority of all Mini-LED Apple devices will be released next year.

Kuo said Apple has plans for four to six products with mini-LED displays over the next few years. Kuo has previously predicted Apple will release a 12.9-inch iPad Pro with an A14X chip in Q3 2020, and an updated 16-inch MacBook Pro in Q4.

Kuo also believes Apple is planning to introduce a 14.1-inch ‌MacBook Pro‌ with a mini-LED display, although he hasn’t provided launch information for that model.

Mini-LED displays will lend themselves to thinner and lighter product designs while continuing to offer many of the same benefits of OLED displays currently used on the latest iPhones. Benefits include improved wide color gamut performance, high contrast and dynamic range, and better local dimming for truer blacks.
