President Donald Trump on Friday said he has spoken with Apple CEO Tim Cook and that Cook sees the economy having a “v-shaped” recovery.
CNBC reports “Trump said Cook believes the economy will have a v-shaped recovery, where a big downturn is matched by an equally big upswing.”
The report says Apple didn’t respond to a request for comment and notes that “In the past, Apple has ignored claims Trump has made about the company or private conversations with Cook.”
While guiding Apple through the dangerous COVID-19 pandemic-fueled waters, Cook is also a member of California Governor Gavin Newsom’s economic recovery task force that is composed of more than 70 members including former Chair of the Federal Reserve Janet Yellen, Disney Executive Chairman Bob Iger, as well as Cook. The task force will be co-chaired by philanthropist Tom Steyer and Newsom’s chief of staff Ann O’Leary.
The group will work to guide the state as it gets its economy back in gear as COVID-19 coronavirus-related shutdowns begin to ease in the coming months. The task force will meet twice a month through the end of the year.
Since President Trump took office he and Cook have become somewhat of an “Odd Couple” with Cook not always agreeing with the president, but advising and helping wherever he can. As reported by a WSJ article, “Over time, the administration began to rely on Mr. Cook for insight into trade and business issues around the world.”
