Apple’s Haptic Touch feature for notifications doesn’t work on the new iPhone SE, and that’s apparently how Apple intended.
Since customers began receiving their new iPhone SE handsets, some have complained that a long press on a notification on the Lock Screen or in the Notification Center fails to bring up rich notification options. Usually, an iOS feature called Haptic Touch allows that to work. However, reports indicate the Haptic Touch feature works on the iPhone SE in other areas of the system, such as on app icons.
When a Redditor contacted Apple Support, they were told that Apple was aware of the issue, but that it doesn’t have plans to release a software update to fix it.
TechCrunch’s Matthew Panzarino also tweeted to confirm Haptic Touch is “working as intended” on iPhone SE, suggesting the functionality will not be added in a future update.
