Apple has partnered with the Ford Foundation, Laurene Powell Jobs, and Leonardo DiCaprio to launch America’s Food Fund, a GoFundMe fundraising initiative aimed at helping to ensure that all people have reliable access to food in the United States.
The goal of America’s Food Fund — launched by Leonardo DiCaprio, Laurene Powell Jobs and Apple, along with the Ford Foundation — is to help ensure that all people have reliable access to food.
The initiative will benefit the non-profit hunger-relief organizations World Central Kitchen and Feeding America. Apple, Powell Jobs, DiCaprio, and the Ford Foundation donated a combined $12 million to start the fund, which will now accept donations from the public. (Click this link to donate.)
World Central Kitchen is led by world-renowned chef and humanitarian, José Andrés, and has been at the forefront of urgently providing meals to people in need in the wake of disasters around the world. WCK began its COVID-19 relief efforts by distributing fresh meals to cruise-ship passengers under quarantine and has since expanded its mission to feed vulnerable communities through mobile distributions, restaurant partners, and others.
Apple CEO Tim Cook in a statement shared by Deadline:
No one can be well if they’re not well fed, and we can only overcome this crisis if we make sure that every person has the essentials that they need to care for themselves, their families and the vulnerable people in their lives. World Central Kitchen and Feeding America do heroic work, and if there is any lesson in this time that we must spend apart, it’s that we are stronger and more resilient when we support one another.
The organization has begun meal distribution in New York, Newark, Miami, Los Angeles, Oakland, New Orleans, Little Rock, and Washington, D.C.; and is planning to expand its operations in the coming week. Currently, it is serving 100,000 fresh meals daily and is ramping up to serve more. These donated funds will help World Central Kitchen continue to expand and feed more people.
