iPhone Camera Supplier LG Innotek Forced to Shut Down Factory For Cleaning Due to Coronavirus Case

iPhone camera supplier LG Innotek has been forced to close one of their factories after a worker tested positive for coronavirus. The Gumi, South Korea factory – which is close to Daegu, where most of the South Korean coronavirus cases have been confirmed – will be closed on Monday for disinfecting.

Reuters says Samsung has also been forced to shut down one of its Gumi factories, also due to a worker testing positive for the virus. That factory will also be closed until Tuesday.

LG Innotek is an important supplier for Apple, and while a brief shutdown of the Gumi plant shouldn’t have much of an impact on iPhone production. However, it remains questionable as to whether the factory will reopen on Tuesday.

Apple CEO Tim Cook sat down for an interview with Fox Business on Thursday, where he spoke about the impact of the coronavirus on Apple’s business.

Cook says he believes China is starting to get the Coronavirus situation under control, and expressed optimism that things will return to normal.

“It feels to me that China is getting the coronavirus under control. When you look at the numbers, they’re coming down day by day by day. And so I’m very optimistic there.”
