British Government Coronavirus PSA Added to UK App Store

iPhone and iPad users in the U.K. who open the App Store on their device will now be greeted by a COVID-19 Coronavirus public service announcement from the British government. The feature is part of new efforts by Apple to prominently display official coronavirus alerts on its devices.

Users that tap on the card are taken to an NHS app link as well as a video offering coronavirus protection guidance from U.K. government chief medical officer, Chris Whitty.

To help save lives, stay at home. Anyone can spread coronavirus. You should now only go out when absolutely necessary, for food, medicine, work, or exercise. Always try to stay two meters apart. Do not meet others outside your household – even friends and family.

Stay Home. Protect the NHS. Save Lives.

The U.S. App Store began displaying White House public service announcements in the App Store on March 21, offering official guidance on social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic. App Store users in other countries will likely soon see similar information from their government in the near future.

Apple has taken several steps in response to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Earlier this month the Cupertino firm announced it would limit coronavirus-related apps in the App Store to apps from government organizations, health-focused NGOs, companies deeply credentialed in health issues, and medical or educational institutions.
