Apple is said to be on schedule to launch a 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a mini-LED display later this year, says industry publication DigiTimes.
Apple reportedly prefers mini LED to OLED for its medium-size devices and will launch an iPad Pro with backlighting in the fourth quarter of 2020.
A separate paywalled article from the publication discusses Apple’s desire to adopt mini-LED technology, which allows for thinner and lighter devices, while offering many of the same benefits of OLED displays, like those used in the latest iPhones. The display technology offers high contrast and dynamic range, good wide color gamut performance, and local dimming for truer blacks.
The DigiTimes report jibes with a prediction earlier this month from well-connected Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who says a mini-LED 12.9-inch iPad Pro will launch in the fall of 2020. Reports continue to mention a 12.9-inch model refresh despite the new iPad Pro models that were announced earlier this week.
