Apple Making ‘Substantial Donation” Including Medical Supplies to Italy to Aid During Coronavirus Pandemic

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced today via Twitter that Apple is making a “substantial donation” including medical supplies to Protezione Civile in Italy. The funds are intended to aid first help responders, medical personnel, and volunteers combat the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Apple has so far donated $15 million worldwide. The Cupertino firm is also matching all employee donations two-to-one to support COVID-19 response efforts locally, nationally, and internationally.

Cook announced yesterday that Apple was supporting Silicon Valley Strong, a Bay Area initiative to aid those affected by the coronavirus outbreak. The funds will help disadvantaged children, senior citizens, and folks struggling with food insecurity.

Apple has shut down all of its stores outside of greater China. Apple has employees that are able to do so working from home and is continuing to pay employees that cannot work from home.
