Apple continues to take action in Italy to help stem the spread of the coronavirus there. The company is canceling all “Today at Apple” sessions in the country and is temporarily closing the Apple Oriocenter retail location, located in Italy’s Bergamo Province.
The store is scheduled to be shuttered from March 6 to March 8, although that period could be extended if infection and death rates continue to rise.
A decree of the President of the Council of Ministers issued last week, ordered all medium and large retail stores, as well as commercial establishments within shopping centers, in the provinces of Bergamo, Lodi, Piacenza, and Cremona are to close on Saturday and Sunday to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. Similar orders were handed down for other Italian provinces and territories.
Similar government-ordered weekend closures occurred at Apple il Leone, Apple Fiordaliso and Apple Carosello on February 29 and March 1.
Italy has been hit hard by the virus, with 3,800 cases of COVID-19, including nearly 150 deaths at last count.
In related news, Santa Clara County officials on Thursday created new health guidelines recommending companies to cancel “large in-person meetings and conferences” and to suspend non-essential employee travel, due to the continuing spread of the coronavirus.
