When Apple debuted its new Mac Pro last December, it took quite a bit of criticism over the new Mac’s non-interchangeable feet, which required Mac Pro owners to use Apple or an Authorized Service Provider to swap the feet out for wheels. It appears that Apple has decided to change this up a bit.
AppleInsider reports that the Mac Pro Technology Overview, which was published on Monday, includes a note on chassis wheels in a section titled “Enclosure Considerations.” The mention indicates the Cupertino firm may soon make the wheels option available as an aftermarket purchase.
“The tower enclosure comes standard with feet; wheels are a configurable option. Both feet and wheels are available as a customer-installable kit and therefore can be converted from feet to wheels or vice versa.”
Apple does not mention a possible launch timeline for the wheel kits, saying only that “some options may have delayed availability.” While the company directs users to the Apple online storefront for more information, there is no wheel-related product listing on the website as yet.
The mention of the wheel kit was first noticed by Relay FM’s Stephen Hackett.
At this point in time, we have no idea how the wheel kit will work, whether they will only be available in one style, or if customized versions will be available. Perhaps from third-party vendors? Mag wheels, please.
