Instagram CEO on Why The Company Hasn’t Developed an iPad App: ‘We Only Have So Many People and Lots to Do

Many iOS users have wondered why popular photo-based social app Instagram hasn’t yet released an iPad version of its app. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri has finally explained why the company has yet to roll out an app for the iPad.

Mosseri says Instagram doesn’t have the resources to develop an iPad version and has “lots to do,” all of it apparently more important than developing an iPad version of the app. (And who buys the “lack of resources” argument, considering Instagram is owned by Facebook?)

“We’d like to build an iPad app, but we only have so many people and lots to do, and it hasn’t bubbled up as the next best thing to do yet,” Mosseri said.

Instagram has usually been mum about its reasons for not developing an iPad version of its app. Last month when it rolled out direct messages on the web, the company was asked by The Verge why it prioritized that feature over an iPad app, the company simply said that direct messages are important because they help users “stay in touch with the people you care about.”

While there had been several third-party Instagram apps for the iPad, Instagram changed its API, killing off those apps.
