A new rumor published originally by iPhonesoft has asserted that Apple’s next version of iOS, iOS 14, will be compatible with all devices capable of running iOS 13. However, iPads will not fare so well, as two iPad models will drop from the list of iPadOS 14 compatible devices.
Apple traditionally drops a device or two from the compatibility lists when it publishes a new operating system for its popular devices. last year’s compatibility list saw the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, as well as the sixth-generation iPod touch dropping from the roster.
iOS 14 supported devices will allegedly include:
- iPhone 11 Pro
- iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPhone 11
- iPhone XS
- iPhone XS Max
- iPhone X
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone 7
- iPhone 7 Plus
- iPhone 6s
- iPhone 6s Plus
- iPhone SE
- iPod touch (7th generation)
iPhonesoft does hedge their bets, as they say their source suggests the A9 chip will likely be supported, but that Apple may choose to drop support for the iPhone 6s line and the iPhone SE later in development.
Meanwhile, on the iPad side of things, the publication says the supported iPad list will lose the iPad mini 4 and the iPad Air 2, suggesting the A8 and A8X chips will not be compatible with the new iPadOS.
iPadOS 14 supported devices will allegedly include:
- 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2016 and 2017)
- 10.5-inch iPad Pro
- 9.7-inch iPad Pro
- 11-inch iPad Pro (2018)
- iPad Air 3
- iPad 7
- iPad 6
- iPad 5
- iPad Mini 5
As is usual, take these claims with a grain of your favorite salt-free seasoning, as nothing is for sure until Apple makes an official announcement at WWDC 2020 in June.
