CES 2020: LG to Bring Apple TV App to 2018 & 2019 Smart TVs Later This Year

LG Smart TV owners will soon gain access to content from the Apple TV+ streaming service, as LG has announced customers with 2018 and 2019 LG TV models receive the Apple TV app later this year.

The announcement was just one of a number of announcements from LG at CES 2020. The update will allow LG television viewers to watch Apple TV content directly from their Smart TV, without the need to rely on using AirPlay, or needing an Apple TV or other set-top streaming devices.

The Apple TV app will allow viewers to use the Apple TV app to subscribe to the Apple TV+ streaming service, as well as other Apple TV channels. The app will also include access to the iTunes video library, which offers over 100,000 films and television shows.

The update will be for 2018 and 2019 LG models, in addition to the new televisions the company will produce this year. LG did not announce an exact date for the Apple TV rollout, only that it will take place sometime this year.

LG rolled out support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit to select 2019 TV models in July 2019.

LG also announced 13 new LG OLED models, led by three new art-inspired GX Gallery series 4K Ultra HD TVs, 88- and 77-inch class Real 8K models and an all-new OLED screen size – 48-inch.
