Apple will make its first official appearance at next week’s annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to be held in Las Vegas. The company’s HomeKit smart home system will be featured at the show.
Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman that Amazon and Google will unveil new software capabilities for their internet-connected products and voice-activated smart platforms. Apple will also put its smart home system on display. Smart home companies will be unveiling new gadgets for the home that can be controlled by Siri, Apple’s virtual digital assistant.
While the company isn’t expected to debut any new hardware at the trade show, Apple executive Jane Horvath is scheduled to appear on a consumer privacy panel on January 7.
While Apple hasn’t made an official appearance at CES in decades, the firm in the past has quietly met behind the scenes with suppliers and partners at the show. Last year saw Apple erect a giant sign in Las Vegas to tout its focus on user security.
