Apple Tells iPhone 11 Smart Battery Case Users to Update to iOS 13.2 to Ensure Proper Camera Button Operation

An internal document sent to Apple Authorized Service Providers today (via MacRumors), Apple has told them to advise customers that are having issues with the camera button on the Smart Battery Case for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, or iPhone 11 Pro Max to update their device to iOS 13.2 or later.

Apple has told technicians to ensure the iPhone is running the latest version of iOS, as the camera button will not function properly unless the device is running iOS 13.2 or later.

Apple also told techs to remind customers that a quick press of the camera button will not launch the Camera app, in order to avoid unintentional launching of the app. The button must be pressed and held for the app to open. However, if users hold the button for too long, the Camera app will close and the device will return to the Lock Screen.

The advisory doesn’t seem to indicate that Apple is admitting there is an issue with the new battery cases, but is instead attempting to clear up some confusion for customers as to the proper operation of the case’s camera button..

The Smart Battery Cases for the ‌iPhone 11‌, ‌iPhone 11 Pro‌, and ‌iPhone 11 Pro Max‌ were launched late last month and are priced at $129 for all models. iFixit recently did an “X-Ray Teardown” of the new case, to show how the camera button operates.
