Bloomberg: Apple Preparing Bundle of Apple Music, Apple News & Apple TV+ for Possible 2020 Release

Apple is considering bundling its Apple Music, Apple News, and Apple TV+ subscription services into one offering as early as 2020, says a Bloomberg report.

The report by Gerry Smith and Mark Gurman says Apple has included a provision in its agreements with Apple News+ publishers the permits it to bundle News+ with other services if it so desires. The monthly price for the bundle of all three services would be lower than the cost of paying for each service separately, which could help attract more subscribers.

Apple Music and Apple News+ are both $9.99 each per month in the United States, while Apple TV+ is $4.99 per month.

Apple already bundles free access to Apple TV+ to students who subscribe to Apple Music. The offer is available for a limited time only.

The report cites the usual “people familiar with the matter.” Later in the article, the report cites “media executives” that say the amount they’ve received from Apple News+ so far has been less than expected. One publisher says it receives less than $20,000 per month from News+, less revenue than it saw from Texture, the company that Apple acquired last year and transformed into Apple News+.

However, there are news executives that are pleased with the service so far.

“The financial results to date are consistent with our expectations,” Norm Pearlstine, the executive editor of the Los Angeles Times, said in a statement. “We are optimistic that they will continue to grow in the months and years ahead.”
