Apple has continued its tradition of sharing a heartwarming holiday-themed video just ahead of the start of the holiday season, and this year is no different. Apple released ‘The Surprise” on YouTube this morning.
The video starts with a family in the car, traveling to their grandfather’s house for the holidays. Of course, the kids are fighting until the iPads come out to occupy them. The family arrives at grandad’s house, who is sadly still mourning the loss of his wife. The kids spend time with their grandpa, finding old family photos, and then putting together a slideshow of family members, giving it to grandpa as a holiday gift.
The 3-minute ad shows off some of the capabilities and features of the iPad, including creating a shwing a photo slideshow. The video features the song “Married Life” by Michael Giacchino, which Disney fans will recognize as being used in the Disney Pixar film “Up.”
The tagline for the video reads, “Sometimes, the best gifts can come from the most unexpected places,” and includes a link to the iPad section of the Apple website.
Apple has a history of holiday ads over the years. Last year’s ad was a three-minute animated spot entitled “Share Your Gifts” and featured a creative young lady that keeps her creations a secret, until one day they were unleashed upon the world for all to enjoy, thanks to her dog. The music in the spot was written and performed by 16-year-old songwriter Billie Eilish. The song is called “Come Out and Play,” and is available via iTunes and on Apple Music.
