Apple Looking to Hire Software Engineers to ‘Build the Next Generation of Media Apps for Windows’

Apple’s latest job listing says they’re looking for software engineers to build “the next generation of media apps for Windows.”

The new listing was shared by Microsoft-focused site Neowin. With the release of macOS 10.15 Catalina earlier this year, Apple did away with the iTunes app, replacing it with a new trio of apps, the Music, Podcasts, and TV apps.

However, Apple continued to offer the iTunes app for Windows users. If Windows 10 users need to access Apple services such as Apple Music or Apple TV+, they need to do so via their browser.

The new job listing indicates Apple may be preparing to resolve this by offering Windows apps similar to that offered in macOS Catalina.

The Media Apps team is looking for a creative Senior Software Engineer to work on the next generation of media apps for Windows. You will help build innovative features that will delight millions of customers around the world.

You possess strong skills in the areas of application design, solid API design principles and have a strong understanding of customer and workflow issues. You have a history of shipping large volume consumer product successfully. You are a well-rounded developer who is not afraid to question assumptions. You have an excellent written and oral skills. You love collaborating under tight deadlines.

If you love music and you are passionate about writing code, and want to work with world-class engineering teams that ship to millions of users, the Media Apps team is the place for you.

The listing says experience with UWP is a “big plus.” “UWP” is the Universal Windows Platform, which means Apple could be looking to create app that will work on both the Windows 10 and Xbox One platforms. Doing so would allow Apple to expand its Apple TV+ app to the Xbox platform, as well as the Windows 10 platform.
