Apple will launch a new iPad Pro boasting a rear-facing 3D Time of Flight camera during the first quarter of 2020, and will also launch new MacBooks using scissor keyboard mechanisms in the second quarter of 2020, says Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Numerous rumors have been reported (including from Kuo), suggesting a time-of-flight camera system for both Apple’s 2020 iPhones and iPad Pro. However, this is the first time Kuo has specified that the 3D sensing camera system will appear in a new iPad Pro model to be released next year.
A time-of-flight camera system works by measuring the amount of time it takes for a laser or LED to bounce light of of objects in the room. It can then provide an accurate 3D map of the surrounding area.
Kuo has previously said two of the iPhones that will be in the 2020 iPhone lineup will feature 3D sensing rear camera setups with time-of-flight (ToF) camera lenses.

The well-respected Apple industry analyst also shared his predicted schedule for Apple’s MacBook Lineup revamp. Kuo says that after the much-expected 16-inch MacBook Pro launches, Apple will switch other 2020 Macs over to a scissor mechanism keyboard, replacing the current butterfly mechanism. This should result in more durable keyboards, les prone to failure for small debris in the keyboard.
Kup says the refreshed MacBook models should make an appearance in the second quarter of 2020.
Kuo also reaffirmed his assertion that Apple will launch its much-rumored “iPhone SE 2” in the first quarter of 2020. Kuo has previously said the new handset will be similar in form factor and specs to the iPhone 8, but boasting an A13 chip and 3GB of RAM
