Consumer Reports Ranks iPhone 11 Pro Max & iPhone 11 Pro at Top of Smartphone Rankings

Apple’s new iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 11 Pro have snagged the top two spots in Consumer Reports’ latest smartphone rankings. The new ratings come following years of Apple’s handsets being edged out by Samsung handsets.

So, why did things change this time around? Consumer Reports cited the handsets’ improved battery life, excellent cameras, and other improvements, such as a more durable glass casing, improved water resistance, brighter displays, and improved performance powered by the new A13 Bionic chip.

The iPhone 11 Pro Max lasted a more than impressive 40.5 hours in CR testing. That’s the longest stretch of any phone currently listed in their ratings. CR says it marks a big turnaround for Apple. “Just a few years ago, iPhones tended to lag behind the competition in this area.”

In the case of the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, CR testers say they scored some of the highest scores in their ratings for still-image quality. The iPhone 11 also rated “Very Good” in the category. All three phones received “Excellent” ratings for rear-video quality.

Scoring was tight in the rankings, with Consumer Reports remarking on how in some categories, mere fractions of a point separated the top models.

The consumer organization says it believes that iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR owners could probably save their money and wait out this round of iPhones, saying there may not be enough in the way of new features to justify spending $1,000 or more on a new phone.

By the way, you’ll need a subscription to the CR website to view the entire smartphone rankings.
