Apple today released watchOS 6.1 for the Apple Watch. The new release brings compatibility for the Apple Watch Series 1 and Series 2 wearables as well as compatibility for Apple’s new AirPods Pro wireless earbuds.
The watchOS 6.1 update can be installed on compatible Apple Watches via the Watch app on the device’s connected iPhone. Go to “General” -> “Software Update” to install the new software. The Apple Watch should have at least 50% battery life, be connected to a charger, and be in range of the paired iPhone.
This is the first release of watchOS 6 that is compatible with the Apple Watch Series 1 and Series 2. In addition, the update supports Series 3, Series 4 and Series 5, although some features may be limited to the newer models.
The original watchOS 6.0 release in September included an array of new features. That update included an Apple Watch-specific App Store and new watch faces, which include the Solar Dial, Modular Compact, Gradient, California, Numerals Duo, and Numerals Mono faces. Numerous existing watch faces were also updated with new design elements.
