Ming-Chi Kuo: iPhone 11 Demand Better Than Expected – Strong Interest in New Colors

A research note by well-respected Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro demand is stronger than expected.

Kuo bases his analysis in part on Apple’s online shipping estimates. Kuo believes demand is “significantly stronger” for the iPhone 11 in the device’s new Green and purple options, while demand is strong for the iPhone 11 Pro/Pro Max in midnight green. Kuo notes the midnight green option is facing production issues, so availability of the model is currently constrained.

The shipping times of midnight green iPhone 11 Pro, green iPhone 11, and purple iPhone 11 are all two–three weeks or longer. The shipping times of other colors are roughly shorter than ten days. It should be noted that the glass casings of midnight green models are currently facing production issues; therefore, it makes the shipping time longer.

Kuo says demand for the more expensive iPhone 11 Pro is higher in the United States, while the cheaper iPhone 11 lineup is selling better in the Chinese market.

TF Securities has increased its forecast for 2019 iPhone 11 shipments to 70–75 million units (up from the previous 65–70 million units), and says the iPhone supply chain should grow steadily in the fourth quarter.

Kuo sees the iPhone 11 as an excellent upgrade choice for owners of iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 7 models. The device’s lower price makes it attractive in China, as the price is roughly equivalent to 1–1.3 times the average monthly salary in China. The iPhone XR’s price was equivalent to 1.5–1.7 times the average monthly salary in China. Kuo says Apple’s zero-interest installment plans over 24 months are also easing purchase concerns among buyers.

Prices for the new iPhone lineup start at $699 for the iPhone 11, while the iPhone 11 Pro starts at $999 and the Pro Max starts at $1,099.
