Apple Reminds Developers to Prepare for iOS 13 & iPadOS Dark Mode

Apple on Thursday emailed developers a reminder to optimize their apps for the new Dark Mode feature in iOS 13 and iPadOS. Apps built using the iOS 13 SDK will support the new mode, which is currently being tested in the iOS 13 and iPadOS betas.

iOS users can choose to adopt a system-wide light or dark appearance. The dark appearance, known as Dark Mode, implements an interface style that many apps already adopt. Users choose the aesthetic they prefer, and can also choose to toggle their interface based on ambient lighting conditions or a specific schedule.

Apple’s email to developers:

Dark Mode introduces a dramatic new look for iPhone and iPad that is seamlessly integrated throughout the system and simple to turn on from Control Center or Siri. With a dark appearance for all user interface elements, your app’s content becomes the focus.

When Dark Mode is turned on, all apps built with the iOS ‌13 ‌SDK will run in Dark Mode. Learn how to optimize for Dark Mode, then test your apps on a device running the latest beta version of iOS 13 or iPadOS. If you need more time to make your apps look fantastic in Dark Mode, or if Dark Mode is not suited for your app, you can learn how to opt out.

Developers who need more information about using Dark Mode in their apps can view Apple’s developer documentation for Dark Mode.
