In what seems to becoming an annual prediction, once again analysts are predicting Apple Pencil support for the upcoming new iPhones. A list of predictions shared on Wednesday by Citi Research includes the prediction.
As noted by Business Insider, many of the report’s list of expected features line up with earlier rumors by other analysts. However, Citi mentioned one potential feature that hasn’t been mentioned yet this year: support for the Apple Pencil.
Although Apple Pencil support for the iPhone hasn’t been mentioned in predictions this year, back in 2018 Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo did predict the iPhone may support the accessory, but did not specify a year it would happen.
There were multiple reports in 2018 from iPhone supply chain sources that the 2018 iPhones would work with the Apple Pencil, but that didn’t take place.
Kuo hasn’t made any mention of the feature in his 2019 iPhone predictions. Kuo said Apple Pencil support would depend on Apple’s releasing a larger iPhone, but it isn’t clear if that meant a larger device than the current 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max.
It seems as if Apple Pencil support for the 2019 iPhone would have been a big enough feature for us to have heard multiple rumors of it appearing this year by now.
While Apple has expanded Apple Pencil compatibility to all of the devices in its iPad lineup, so future iPhone support may not be completely out of the question.
