LG Says Its 2019 TVs Will Gain AirPlay 2 and HomeKit Support Next Week

Television maker LG has announced updates will be released next week that will add AirPlay 2 and HomeKit compatibility to their 2019 television sets

The announcement came via LG’s Australian support account on Twitter, in response to a customer’s query as to when the updates might happen.

Users will need to be running iOS 12.4 on their iPhone or iPad in order to take advantage of the new features.

Following the update, users will have the ability to beam content – including video, music, and photos – from their iPhone, iPad, or Mac to their LG TV. The process will work like it already does when using an Apple TV.

The update’s HomeKit support will allow users to control their television using Siri voice commands or via the Home app on their Mac, iPhone, ior iPad. Siri commands will allow users to play specific shows or movies via AirPlay to the LG smart set.

LG announced during CES 2019 that their 2019 televisions would offer support for AirPlay 2. Samsung, Sony, and Vizio also announced support for their lineups, some support will even be added to previous years’ models.

The compatible LG models include the following:

  • LG OLED (2019)
  • LG NanoCell SM9X series (2019)
  • LG NanoCell SM8X series (2019)
  • LG UHD UM7X series (2019)
