Chalk up another life saved for the Apple Watch. This time it’s the Watch’s SOS Feature that gets the accolades. A Chicago man is crediting his Apple wearable with saving him from drowning, following a jet ski accident.
WBBM Newsradio reports jet skier Phillip Esho was enjoying a ride in Lake Michigan, when a wave flipped him onto the water. He and his phone both took a dive.
Esho said he was riding a jet ski from the 31st Street Harbor to McCormick Place to take pictures of the Chicago skyline, when the incident took place. Esho’s phone was lost in the water, and folks in nearby boats couldn’t see him or hear his cries for help. The waves kept pushing him underwater, despite the floatation device he was wearing.
Esho was wearing his Apple Watch, so he decided to use his Watch’s Emergency SOS feature to contact emergency services. He wasn’t sure the call connected, but he soon saw a helicopter and Chicago Police and Fire boats coming to rescue him.
If it wasn’t for the Apple Watch, Esho isn’t sure he would have been helped in time.
While the Apple Watch mostly received accolades for saving lives thanks to its health-related features, this is a great example of how its emergency SOS feature can also help save lives.
