Apple is offering a fun way for potential buyers of the upcoming Mac Pro to see how the new Mac powerhouse will look on their desk – or, anywhere really.
Apple has published a fun new website that allows iPhone and iPad users to use Augmented Reality to visualize how the Mac Pro will look in their workspace. Or, even on their bathroom counter.
Simply visit the Mac Pro or Pro Display XDR web page on Apple’s website with your iPhone or iPad, and then tap the “See Mac Pro in AR” (or “View in AR”) link to launch the AR tool on your device.
It will take a few moments to load, and then you’ll see two options at the top of the screen. The “Object” option allows you to use your fingers to zoom and rotate a detailed 3D model of the new Mac Pro or the new pro-level display on your screen.
Press the “AR” tab, and your iOS device’s rear camera will activate, and you can then aim the device wherever you want to preview the Mac Pro or display. This can be your desk, the floor, or on the ceiling, for that matter. (You can also adjust the size and position of the Mac Pro or display in the AR view.)
While the tool is designed to give users an idea of how the new Mac will look on their desk, I had more fun with it determining how it would look on my front porch among my wife’s plants, or setting on the floor next to the cat. (Not to scale.)
The all-new Mac Pro starts at $5,999 and will be available to order in the fall. Pro Display XDR starts at $4,999, the Pro Stand is $999 and the VESA Mount Adapter is $199. All will be available to order in the fall. Additional technical specifications, configure-to-order options and accessories are available at apple.com/mac-pro and apple.com/pro-display-xdr.
