The Samsung Galaxy Fold fiasco has claimed another victim, this time it’s a product from another electronics firm. Huawei on Friday confirmed it is delaying the launch of its Mate X foldable smartphone from June to September to assure the quality of the device.
A spokesperson for Huawei told CNBC the Chinese smartphone maker is being more “cautious” after the display issues revealed by reviewers of Samsung’s Galaxy Fold smartphone. “We don’t want to launch a product to destroy our reputation.”
Following the embarrassing reviews of pre-release versions of the Galaxy Fold, Samsung announced it was delaying the launch of the device and says it plans to announce a new release date “in the coming weeks.”
The Huawei spokesperson said that the company was doing extra testing with mobile carriers around the world and developers to make sure their apps work when the device is fully unfolded.
Last month, the Trump administration added Huawei to a trade blacklist due to national security concerns. That effectively forbids U.S. firms from doing business with the Chinese tech firm.
