Jeff Lin, analyst at research firm IHS Markit, predicts Apple will release a 16-inch MacBook Pro in September, as well as a processor upgrade for the MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Function Keys.
His predictions were outlined in IHS’s latest Emerging PC Market Tracker report, published Thursday and first shared by Forbes.
Lin says he believes the 16-inch display will be an LCD screen, supplied by LG Display. The new display will boast a resolution of 3,072×1,920 pixels. For comparison purposes, the 15-inch MacBook Pro has a resolution of 2,880×1,800 pixels.
As might be expected, the new notebook would also feature a newer processor.
“We foresee that Apple will release a new product [at the] Sep’19 Apple event if there’s no unexpected development issue,” Lin said in an email, referring to the 16-inch MacBook Pro.
A recent report from Korean website The Elec claimed Samsung and Apple were in discussions for the Kopren firm to supply OLED displays for the 16-inch MacBook Pro. Time will tell which report, if either of them, are accurate.
Well-connected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in February said a 16-inch MacBook Pro would launch in 2019 with an “all-new design,” but did not specify which display technology the new MacBook Pro would use.
Lin also noted that Apple is expected to update its 13.3-inch MacBook Pro and Retina MacBook Air in September.
