Target Recalls “HeyDay” 3-foot Lightning to USB-A Charging Cables – Can Cause Fires or Electric Shock

Target has announced the recall of the “HeyDay” 3-foot Lightning to USB-A Charging Cables, which were sold in Target department stores between June 2018 and January 2019.

The cables, of which approximately 90,000 were sold, can cause electric shock or fires due to the metal around the cord. The metal can become electrically charged if it contacts the USB wall charger plug prongs while charging, posing shock and fire hazards.

The description of the affected cable is as follows:

This recall includes the heyday 3 Foot Lightning USB charging cables. The cables are used to charge cellphones and other electronics that use lightning connector charging cables. The metal charging cable is purple, green and blue iridescent. The word “heyday” is printed on the cable’s connector. The model number 080 08 8261 is printed on the side of the product’s packaging.

Target is offering refunds to customers that purchased the cable, and recommends anyone that purchased the cable immediately stop using it and return it to the local Target store for a full refund.
