‘Back to My Mac’ to be Dropped from All Versions of macOS on July 1

Apple today revealed that support for Back to My Mac will be removed from all versions of macOS on July 1. The announcement came by way of an updated support document.

Back to My Mac allows users to connect directly to one or more Macs to allow screen sharing and file transfers. The tools have been unavailable in macOS Mojave since its first beta in mid-2018, but was still available for use with older versions of macOS.

“As of July 1, 2019, Back to My Mac service is not available in any other version of macOS,” the updated support page announces. The Cupertino firm suggests using iCloud Drive, Apple Remote Desktop, and native screen sharing tools as alternatives.

Many Mac users are likely to be disappointed (at the very least) to hear the news. Especially since one of their proposed solutions, Apple Remote Desktop,  is somewhat buggy, and costs $79.99. However, there are third-party options available, like TeamViewer and LogMeIn.
