Apple on Friday confirmed that it plans to activate the Apple Watch Series 4 ECG feature for users in Canada, after receiving approval from the country’s “Health Canada” regulatory body.
ALthough the Cupertino firm didn’t disclose a specific timeline for launch, it told The Canadian Press that the rollout would happen “as quickly as possible.”
The confirmation comes three days after Health Canada granted Apple a pair of licenses for ECG-related Apple Watch functions.
A Health Canada representative confirmed that the government agency’s medical device section has approved two Apple licenses but referred questions about Canadian release dates to the manufacturer.
A person with knowledge of Apple’s procedures said the heart features of the Apple Watch Series 4 will be enabled in Canada when the company updates the watch’s operating system software but the timing of the update wasn’t known.
