Another day, another rumor about the 2019 iPhone lineup. A new rumor claims Apple’s 2019 iPhone XR replacement will boast a dual-lens rear camera. The advanced photo technology would be a first for an entry-level smartphone from Apple.
Mac Otakara reported on Friday that one lens would be wide-angle, and the other would be a telephoto shooter. The report sourced information from Chinese suppliers.
Apple has always used the telephoto lenses for two purposes, first as a 2x optical zoom and the second is used for the popular Portrait Mode photos in the iOS Camera app.
The current XR uses specialized algorithms to achieve a Portrait effect with its single lens.
Multiple reports have indicated Apple’s flagship 5.8- and 6.5-inch “XI” and “XI Max” OLED iPhones will include a triple-lens camera, with the third lens possibly being a super-wide lens. Mac Otakara theorizes that two out of three lenses may be used as common parts to keep costs down.
