Ming-Chi Kuo: 2019 iPhone Will Feature 12MP Front Cameras, Special Black Coating to Hide Lenses, and More

Well-informed industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says all of the handsets in the 2019 iPhone lineup will boast a 12-megapixel single-lens front camera, which is a nice boost from the current 7-megapixel front-facing shooter on the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max.

Kuo’s note, first published by MacRumors, also predicts the replacements for the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will also feature a triple-lens rear camera, which will include a 12-megapixel telephoto lens, 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a 12-megapixel super-wide-angle lens supplied by Sony.

Kuo believes the iPhone XR replacement will sport a dual-lens rear shooter, but did not include any information about megapixels or any other specs for the camera. The current rear-facing camera on the iPhone XR is a single 12-megapixel wide-angle lens.

Kuo also says both the rear- and front-facing on the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max replacement will use “black lens-coating technologies,” which will make the lenses look “inconspicuous.”

While Kuo is a well-known reliable source, take these reports with a grain of your favorite seasoning (I recommend Lawry’s Garlic Salt), and we’ll find out for sure what the new iPhone lineup will look like sometime in September.
