A photo of what is allegedly a chassis piece for the 2019 iPhone has added more fuel to the rumor of a 2019 iPhone with a triple-lens camera setup.
The image (seen below) was shared on Weibo and later tweeted by Ben Geskin. The photo jibes with previous rumors that the 2019 iPhone will feature a rear-facing camera system set up in a triangular configuration.
Well-connected Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in October that he was anticipating a triple-lensed iPhone in the fall of 2019.
In March leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) tweeted a photo of chassis schematics that he said was for a triple-lensed iPhone.
In January, Bloomberg reported the iPhone XS Max successor will feature a triple-lens arrangement, while the iPhone XS and iPhone XR followups will use dual-lens setups.
A triple-lens rear camera would allow for a larger field of view, a wider zoom range, improved low-light performance, and will be able to capture a larger number of pixels.
As with any rumors, take these reports with a grain of your favorite seasoning (Lawry’s Garlic Salt is delicious!), and we’ll find out for sure what the new iPhone lineup will look like sometime in September.
