A Huntington Beach, Calif. man has recovered an Apple Watch he lost while surfing in the Pacific Ocean six month ago, and the Watch still works!
“This thing has been my good luck charm. I would use it quite often to show the surf and how fast you were going. It would even show you where you were on the beach,” Robert Bainter told KTLA. Sadly, one day he was riding a big wave, only to discover the Watch was no longer on his wrist.
“A huge wave came and you know I was loving it, rode it and then I pick up my arm and like ‘Oh My God,’ what just happened,” said Bainter.
He spent an hour looking for his Apple Watch, and turned on the device’s Lost Mode using Find My iPhone. But, the Watch remained lost until he recently received a call form a gentleman that had found it 3 miles north of where Bainter had lost it. The man was able to retrieve Bainter’s contact info.
“He was just walking looking for shells and he found it right there,” Bainter said.
Bainter had already purchased a replacement Watch, but was pleasantly surprised to find the original device still worked, even if the display was a little hazy, likely from the ocean salt water.
“It worked fine, it didn’t skip a beat, all the information was there, all the apps were there,” said Bainter. “I’m a big Apple fan.”
