Vox to Join Apple’s News Subscription Service

The New York Times might not be biting, but Apple has reportedly enticed Vox to become a part of its upcoming subscription news service, expected to debut on Monday.

Vox is a general news site whose journalists “candidly shepherd audiences through politics and policy, business and pop culture, food, science, and everything else that matters.”

Bloomberg:

The site is owned by Vox Media Inc., which also publishes the Verge, SBNation and Eater, though its other properties won’t be part of the service initially, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the accord hasn’t been announced.

Vox doesn’t currently offer a subscription option. However, Vox CEO Jim Bankoff recently remarked that paid subscriptions would be added to the Vox site later this year.

Apple is expected to charge $10 per month for the new subscription service, offering access to a variety of newspaper and magazine content. It is believed that publications that sign on to the new service will pay Apple a 50% cut of the subscription fees from the service. While The Wall Street Journal has reportedly come to terms with Apple, other major publications, such as the Washington Post and Thompson’s New York Times, have refused

Apple is expected to unveil both a digital news service and a television streaming service at a March 25 event at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time (1:00 p.m. Eastern Time) from the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park campus.

MacTrast will report on all the action on Monday, so stay tuned.
