Rumor: Apple to launch AirPods 2 on March 29

We’ve all been waiting for a release date for Apple’s much-anticipated next-generation AirPods 2 wireless earbuds. While we don’t have anything official as yet, a new report indicates a March 29 release date for the new earbuds.

A rumor posted by Spanish blog Applesfera, suggests Apple has plans to replace its current generation AirPods with new models on March 29.

The blog’s source is the ever-popular source said to be familiar with Apple’s plans. The blog adds credence to the claim with a screenshot said to have been taken from Apple’s stock management software, showing the current AirPods model to have an “end of life cycle” date of March 28.

A rumor from mid-February says Apple’s new AirPods will debut at an Apple event in late March, and that the new buds will hit store shelves on March 29. Also said to be readying for the event are the long-delayed AirPower charging mat, a new low-cost iPad model, and the “iPad mini 5.”

However, noted leaker Onleaks in mid-February tweeted that while a new AirPods wireless charging case may see a release very soon, the AirPods 2 wireless earbuds won’t see a release until later this year.

Also in mid-February came a much-believed report saying a March 25 event would be held at Apple Park to unveil its much-rumored news service, which will bring paid subscriptions to their Apple News service and apps. The report said an unveiling of a new iPad mini or next-generation AirPods at the event is “unlikely.”

As always, take any rumor with a well-deserved grain of your favorite salt-free seasoning. However, if any of these rumors are true, the end of March holds good things.
