New Report Suggests Samsung Will Supply Apple With Foldable Displays

A report by ETNews indicated Samsung is willing to supply Apple and Google with foldable displays. The news comes on the heels of Samsung’s launch of their Galaxy Fold foldable phone.

According to the industry on the 27th, Samsung Display made a set of foldable display and delivered it to Apple. This set, which is actually powered like a smartphone, has a 7.2-inch size foldable panel. 7.2 inches is 0.1 inches smaller than the Samsung Folder ‘Galaxy Fold’. Samsung Display also delivered the drive set to Google. Google is a smart device operating system (OS) Android developer. Google is releasing hardware (HW) such as smartphones and tablets as well as OS as a ‘pixel’ brand. Samsung is delivering to Apple and Google in order to supply the future of foldable displays.

Samsung has long been considered a “frenemy” to Apple, as it is both a supplier of OLED screens for Apple’s iPhone and also makes smartphones. Samsung’s flagship “Galaxy” smartphones is considered the main competitor to Apple’s iPhone lineup.

The report indicates Samsung will happily share their foldable technology with other companies, in a bid to become the dominant supplier for the technology. Samsung is said to currently able to produce approximately 2.4 million units this year, but could move up to as high as 10 million units, depending on demand.

Apple has been working on foldable display technology for years and owns patents related to the technology. However, the company isn’t expected to release a product using the tech until 2020 at the earliest.
